• If participants haven’t prepared adequately for the session, stop the session and reschedule it.

• Insist on specifics, encouraging statements such as, “On page 4, line 34, there appears to be a missing condition.”

• The author(s) of the work product have the final decision over whether or not something is a defect.

Evaluating Inspection Results

There are three primary results of an inspection—the defect list, suggested updates to checklists, and any inspection metrics (such as hours spent per defect discovered). The work-product author and the facilitator determine whether the product will need to be reinspected after the corrections have been made. The facilitator is responsible for initiating whatever process is in place for updating checklists.
